Shoulder Pain

The shoulder is one of the most complex and mobile joints in the body, allowing a wide range of motion, but this also makes it vulnerable to injury and pain. Shoulder pain can be caused by many things, such as poor posture if you slouch over a desk all day, arthritis, impingement (also posture related), bursitis, and rotator cuff tears.

Understanding the cause of your shoulder pain vs your friend’s or cousin’s is the first step to finding lasting pain relief. Most traditional treatments fail to address the root cause in each individual case, and range of motion can quickly diminish if the cause is not addressed in a timely manner.

And The Most Effective Way To Treat It

Contributing Factors And Symptoms

One of the most common causes of neck pain is repetitive stress of the neck muscles, tendons, and ligaments within these structures. Individuals who spend most of their day sitting at work, or doing sedentary activities, have a high-risk factor for developing this condition. The risk for developing neck pain is highest for those who sit in poor posture, with the head in a flexed forward position.

Several other causes of neck pain are also posture related, such as herniated discs, whiplash injuries, and Osteoarthritis (developing from the wear and tear of cartilage and bones). Poor posture puts your cervical spine, disks, and muscles in the neck at risk of injury and damage.

Common Shoulder Complaints

  • Muscle soreness, tightness, or spasms
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Pain between the shoulder blades
  • Rotator cuff pain or tears
  • Nerve impingement
  • Tingling and numbness down one or both arms
  • Bursitis or tendonitis

Traditional Treatments Often Fall Short

Remedies for shoulder pain are often limited and provide only short-term relief.  Fortunately, there is another proven method that focuses on the root cause of pain, resulting in lasting relief for both acute and chronic shoulder pain.

Ice, heat, and pain relief creams are topical remedies that might feel good when applied but usually wear off in a very short amount of time.

Steroid shots and surgeries are isolated to the location of the pain are unsuccessful when the root cause is elsewhere in the body.

General stretching and massage only provide short-term relief since their focus is on the site of the pain and not the root cause.

Over-the-counter and prescription meds only mask the pain temporarily, which often results in symptoms getting worse over time.

Treat The Root Cause

Shoulder Pain is usually caused by a posture imbalance
somewhere else in the body

Surgeries, injections, bracing, and stretching or strengthening exercises isolated to the shoulder are often ineffective because the root cause of the pain is usually an imbalance, muscle weakness, or crookedness elsewhere. When you have shoulder pain, it’s important to look for deeper issues or imbalances in the hips and spine, or even all the way down in the feet and ankles.

Rehab isolated to the shoulder will be temporary or ineffective when nerve impingement, bursitis, inflammation, and muscle tears were caused by a shift in the mechanics of the shoulder due to a posture imbalance elsewhere in the body. For example, if the shoulders are rounded forward, an overhead motion will be painful as the nerves get pinched in this compromised position. In a hunched posture, one or both of the shoulder blades can be pulled away from each other, or winged. This causes imbalances in the rotator cuff muscles, decreasing range of motion, increasing stress on the muscles and tendons, and increasing chance of injury.

In order to effectively address your shoulder pain, you must look at your overall posture,  head to toe, and determine what joints are compromised and show up with an imbalance. Correcting these areas with a personalized therapy program can prevent a future injury as well.
